Invisalign® Clear Braces

If you’re looking for a straight smile in Wellington without the metal-mouth, Invisalign clear aligners may be the solution. Invisalign® is a set of transparent (see-through) aligners that fit over your teeth. Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign® aligners are removable & replaced every two weeks for the entire course of your treatment.

What Is Invisalign®?

Picture of Invisalign Clear Braces
Wellington was one of the first cities to get Invisalign aligners when they arrived in New Zealand in 2008.
Supreme Dental Concepts has been one of the top providers in Wellington for Invisalign aligners since 2008. Since then, we have seen a major change in the technological aspects of Invisalign in Wellington. The new technology has improved all aspects of Invisalign Treatment, from record-taking to delivery to finishing the treatment.

Invisalign® uses a series of clear aligners to straighten your teeth. Each clear aligner only shifts your teeth slightly, so you need to change them between 7-14 days. You’ll wear around 20 to 30 sets of aligners before your treatment is finished. Some patients need to wear more sets, and others need to wear fewer. It all depends on your specific case! Aligner technology is continually evolving, so what we might not have been able to do yesterday may be able to do today. Always ask.

It is a powerful tool for treating minor to moderate orthodontic problems. If your issue is severe enough, we may not be able to treat your case with Invisalign® aligners. Traditional metal braces are a reliable alternative that can correct most bite issues. To find out which treatment is best for you, please call for a consultation today!

The difference between Invisalign treatment (or any other similar aligner brand) is that we design your result before we start, so we know where we are going and what we need to get there. With brackets, it isn't easy to give you a preview of your treatment, so you have to rely on the expertise of the orthodontic provider.

Supreme Dental Concepts is the only practice in Wellington that uses Invisalign in conjunction with Digital Smile Design to give you the option of an outstanding smile.

The restrictive brackets and wires of traditional metal braces can trap bits of food and make cleaning your teeth more difficult. You may have stains when removed if you don’t thoroughly clean your teeth while wearing metal braces.

With Invisalign®, there is no need for fixed wires and brackets, so you won’t have to worry about food stuck in your braces. Plus, you can smile confidently without hiding a mouthful of metal! Placing and removing Invisalign® aligners is seamless and convenient. They can be easily removed before meals or social engagements. Even when you’re wearing them, they are discreet and blend in with your smile.
Invisalign, a revolutionary approach to orthodontic treatment, emerged from the innovative vision of Zia Chishti, who was an adult orthodontic patient himself. Founded in 1997, Chishti conceptualized the idea of Invisalign while undergoing traditional metal brace treatment. He realized the potential for a teeth-straightening solution that was not only virtually invisible but also removable, offering a level of convenience and aesthetic appeal that traditional braces couldn't match. This insight led to the creation of Align Technology, the company behind Invisalign. Leveraging advanced 3D printing technology, Invisalign developed a series of custom-made, clear aligners that gradually shift teeth into their desired position, a stark contrast to the metal brackets and wires of conventional braces.

What made Invisalign a disruptor in the orthodontic industry was not just its innovative product but also its direct appeal to consumer desires for a more aesthetically pleasing orthodontic treatment option. The clear aligners addressed the stigma and discomfort associated with traditional braces, particularly for adults. In addition to its cosmetic and comfort advantages, Invisalign introduced a level of customization previously unseen in orthodontics. Each aligner was made to fit the individual's mouth precisely, using 3D computer imaging technology to map out the entire treatment plan from the initial position of the patient's teeth to the final desired outcome. This approach not only optimised the effectiveness of the treatment but also provided patients with a clear understanding of their treatment journey.

Moreover, Invisalign disrupted the orthodontic market by leveraging cutting-edge technology to streamline the manufacturing and treatment process. The use of computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology enabled the production of aligners with unprecedented precision, while also reducing costs and treatment times. This technological edge allowed Align Technology to offer Invisalign as a competitive, effective alternative to traditional braces. The company's innovative direct-to-consumer marketing strategy further broadened its appeal, reaching a wider audience than traditional orthodontic channels. As a result, Invisalign not only transformed the way people viewed orthodontic treatment but also expanded the potential market, making orthodontic care more accessible and appealing to a broader demographic, including those who might have foregone treatment altogether due to the drawbacks of traditional braces.

The Invisalign Procedure Overview

As your treatment progresses, each new set will have minor adjustments. You may notice that a new set doesn’t fit quite right at first. This is because your teeth need to shift to fit the aligner’s shape. Invisalign® is a gradual process, so each aligner only moves a few specific teeth at a time. Your dentist or orthodontist will check up on your progress every few weeks & give you new sets of clear aligners based on your current progress.

The pressure from the aligner is strong enough to move most teeth, but some may need an extra push. Your dentist or orthodontist can add attachments to help guide your teeth into place. An attachment is made with a small dot of liquid bonding resin that is applied to a specific tooth & hardened with a special curing light. This dot helps make contact with the aligner, applying extra force to teeth that may not shift on their own. Adding & later removing this bonding resin is a simple process that doesn’t require any anaesthesia

What an excellent dental office! I took my two children in for a free consult for orthodontic care. I am amazed that they offer this service free. Dr Vithal was awesome, very informative, very thorough. We were even emailed link to view the imaging he took while we are at home. It is clear to me that that what is best for the patient is the first priority!

I have been to a number of Dental clinics as I've moved around, all with great reviews. This clinic has been the most impressive so far. They have some of the most advanced technology, outside of a specialist, I have experienced. They are clear and patient when communicating with you, and the cost was very reasonable for such an advanced check up (standard X-ray, panoramic X-ray, 3d dental scan and physical examination). I haven't had any actual work done yet, but will be over the next month or so, and I'm confident it will be excellent.

I have been in New Zealand for a family emergency and my daughter had a problem with her braces. We have no orthodontist here obviously and I tired a couple of places here in Lower Hutt. I rang Supreme dental yesterday morning. They got the details of the issue and were able to see my daughter later the same day. We were seen immediately on arrival. The dentist was able to ascertain the problem and fix it within a matter of minutes. A spring/wire had come loose and was sticking into my daughters cheek causing some pain. I cannot thank all the staff at Supreme dental enough. They did not hesitate when they understood the problem - and fitted us in very quickly. To top it off they did not charge us - I know it was a short easy fix but I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, compassion, care and kindness.

What Can Invisalign Fix?

UNDERBITE

Underbites happen because there is a larger growth of the lower jaw compared to the upper jaw.  Invisalign can help in developing plans to move the teeth and what additional techniques we can use to ensure we achieve a good outcome for you. Invisalign allows up to plan in detail the correct approach for you.

CROSSBITE

Teeth are often crowded, and cross bite is when teeth are sitting in the opposite direction. Like the upper front teeth are on the inside of the lower teeth. Invisalign is a nice gentle way of moving the teeth back into the correct position. Invisalign will apply the slow gentle forces to the predetermined position to produce a beautiful smile.,

GAPPED

Gapped teeth are annoying as they trap food and don't produce and aesthetic smile. Gapped teeth can develop over time as you grow older, or they can be something that you are born with. Invisalign will fix gapped teeth in a short space of time and produce a beautiful smile. Sometimes with gapped teeth you may need some bonding in order to make the teeth the right proportions. Invisalign has a number of features which will allow us to pretest and see what our end result will be.

CROWDED TEETH

Crowded teeth are the most common problem people come in with. Crowded teeth result in you not being able to clean your teeth well and hence more problems with decay and tartar build up. Apart from that the aesthetic aspects often can result in you not being as confident in yourself. Invisalign has the ability to move teeth in different directions at the same time. Invisalign is also hardly noticeable to that mean you can carry on your normal life without being more self-conscious as Invisalign treatment progress's.

STRAIGHTER

Often our teeth are in the right place but just in the wrong direction or angulation which can result in the smile not looking straight. Invisalign is a great way to correct this problem and achieve a straighter healthier looking smile.

OPEN BITE

Open bites can be either in the front or the back teeth. Invisalign is really good at closing anterior open bites. Posterior ones can be a bit harder, however the gentle sustained forces of Invisalign will gradually bring the teeth together

OVER BITE

Overbite is one of the hardest areas in orthodontic movement. Invisalign has developed a number of propriety systems and techniques which makes this form of treatment much easier to treat than before.

Invisalign® vs. Traditional Braces

Removable aligners are handy, but taking them out too frequently can make your treatment more difficult. If you spend too much time without wearing them, you can actually lose progress & increase the time & expense of your Invisalign® treatment. You may even need to go back to wearing an old pair of aligners! Dentists recommend keeping your aligners on for at least 22 hours a day. Only remove them for meals & special occasions, & keep track of the amount of time they aren’t in your mouth. If you tend to be forgetful, you may be better off with traditional braces.

FAQ

Invisalign Frequently Asked Questions

Invisalign Aligners should be worn for 20 to 22 hours a day to achieve the best results. If you wear them less, your treatment with Invisalign aligners will take longer. Invisalign aligners are taken out for eating, brushing your teeth, and special occasions.
Invisalign aligners are made from a proprietary clear aligner material developed especially by Invisalign, which makes them very different from other companies. Invisalign aligners are clear so they are hardly noticeable unless someone looks at you very closely. Our practice had a receptionist who had Invisalign treatment, and nobody knew even though she was talking to people every day close up.
Invisalign treatment, in most cases, takes approx. 12 months but can range up to 18 months. The important issue in Invisalign treatment is that you wear your Invisalign aligners as you have been instructed to do. The better you comply with Invisalign treatment protocols the quicker you will finish your Invisalign treatment.
Everyone has to wear night retainers for all orthodontic work, including Invisalign. Invisalign has developed special night retainers called Vivera. For every treatment we carry out with Invisalign, we provide Vivera night retainers.
Invisalign costs vary due to the variation of the treatment that has to be carried out. The average cost of Invisalign treatment is between $8500.00 and $9500.00, inclusive of all services provided by Invisalign. Often, we use other companies that have products that can help with Invisalign treatment, and if we recommend those, we will advise you of all the costs upfront so there are no surprises.
Invisalign consults with Supreme Dental Concepts are free and you will be provided with all the information so that you are able to make the right choice for yourself. You can then decide if Invisalign is the right treatment for you. Invisalign consultations are ½ hour long and can be made online or by ringing up the practice.

How long do I need to wear the aligners?

You should be given a series of Invisalign aligners. Each aligner should be worn for 22 hours a day. The days of wear can vary from 5 to 14 days. On average, you will change them once every 7 days.

Is there anything I am not allowed to eat during treatment?

You can eat anything you wish, provided you take your Invisalign aligners out when you eat. The important rule is to clean your teeth thoroughly before you put your aligners back in. Please note that because you will most likely have attachments ( buttons) on your teeth, food will tend to stick around those areas. Make sure you use a soft brush to clean around the buttons before you put your Invisalign aligners back on

Are there restrictions on hot or cold beverages when my aligners are on?

The recommendation is not to drink hot or cold fluids with your aligners on because the temperature can cause a deformation to occur in the aligners. Also, there is the possibility of developing stains around your aligners and teeth. Cool room-temperature water is safe to drink with your aligners on.

Can I drink alcohol while wearing the aligners?

As discussed before, you should not drink alcohol with your Invisalign aligners in because the aligners will trap the alcohol, which contains sugar, on your teeth, potentially causing minerals to be lost and thus leading to possible decay.

Can I smoke or Vap while wearing the aligners?

We don’t encourage smoking or vaping while wearing aligners because it’s possible for them to become discolored. Also, this activity has a bad effect on your overall health

Gum chewing. Is that allowed with aligners?

Chewing with your Invisalign aligners will cause deformation of the specially designed plastic, making the aligners less effective. In turn, this will lengthen your time in the aligners as your teeth will not move as effectively as programmed. We, therefore, do not recommend any form of chewing with the aligners, including gum chewing.

Is it safe to sleep with aligners in?

Invisalign aligners are designed to be form-fitting around the teeth, and various buttons on the teeth lock them on to achieve more effective movement. You will often struggle to get them out until you develop a specific set of movements to dislodge them. If you do note that they have come out regularly, get in touch with your dentist, who can then work out what the issue is.

Is speech affected when wearing aligners?

Normally, your speech sounds come from the movement of your tongue against the upper palate. The aligners do not encroach on this area, so technically, they should not affect your speech. Having aligners in your mouth initially feels very foreign, so you may notice some minor speech changes while your body works out that having aligners in your mouth is a normal part of your everyday routine. If you continue to have problems for any reason after a week, you should talk to your Invisalign provider and get some advice.

Invisalign is a series of plastic aligners which are all made in a systematic way to get your teeth to move in an ordered way. This will result in your teeth being straighted over time.
